Capture Any Portion of Any Web Page and Post/Embed It Anywhere with Kwout

Capture Any Portion of Any Web Page and Post/Embed It Anywhere with Kwout | Content Curation World | Scoop.it
A brilliant way to quote
Robin Good's insight:

Kwout is a web app that allows you to grab any portion of any web page, including text and images and to easily post it on your site, blog or on your preferred social media channel.

To use Kwout you install a Firefox add-on or the Chrome extension and whenever you see content you want to "quote" you click the Kwout button and then you select the part of the page you want to quote with your mouse.

At this point you can select whether to share, tweet or embed your selected quote whereever you like. A unique feature makes it possible for all of the links contained in the part of the page you grabbed to remain fully active and clickable.

Kwout archives also all of the "quotes" you create and can auto-generate a page that shows your history of cited content.

P.S.: This is not a new tool and it has not been updated since 2011 but it is still working fine.

Free to use.

I've always been wanting archive pages from the web to go back to again. Here is a way to help you do that.

Handig app om dingen die je op het web tegenkomt van aantekeningen te voorzien en te bewaren.

wanderingsalsero's curator insight, October 20, 2013 7:54 PM

I haven't read this article but I'm seriously interested in the question implied in the title.....i.e. how to 'mark up' information and get them on the web.  In many cases, I think that's adequate for most people's purpose.

I have yet to find a tool that I found really comfortable for doing that.  Maybe this is it.

Curate Your Private Collection of Images, Texts, Clips or Websites with Iceber.gs

Robin Good's insight:

Iceber.gs is a web app which allows you to easily clip any text, image, video clip or entire web page and to store into a dedicated private visual collection by simply clicking a button.

Iceber.gs unlike Pinterest allows to clip not just images present on a web page, but allows to select specific text passages, to capture video clips and to save entire web pages from top to bottom. You can also upload multimedia files directly from your computer by simply dragging and dropping them in your favorite collection.

Iceber.gs collections are meant to be created for private use, and are not indexed by major search engines. Its main applications are in situations where you work in a team in which you need to share relevant research stuff, or when dealing with a client to whom you need to show drafts and layout examples.

An extension to capture new content is available for Chrome, Firefox and Safari: https://iceber.gs/iceframedownload/index.html

My comment: Useful alternative to the many visual curation boards out there for those in need specifically a "private", not publicly shared solution.

Free to use.

I like this chrome extension. A neat new way to curate and integrate into your main page. Interesting way to showcase a team project to showcase information back and forth. We tried this for one of our group projects as an assignment.

Collect and Organize Your Favorite Texts, Images and Videos with Keeeb

Pinterest meets Evernote. Every day you surf and find amazing things on the internet. With Keeeb you can save sentences or paragraphs, single images and vide...
Robin Good's insight:

Keeeb is a Pinterest-like content curation tool, which allows you to clip individual text passages, images you find on web page or video clips into visual collections that you can organize according to your preferences.

Within Keeb visual boards, which can be set to be public or private (default), you can in fact drag and re-arrange individual items as you prefer. Collected items can also be easily copied or moved to other "pages" (collections) you have and can be shared directly on your Facebook or Twitter social media channels.

You can also work collaboratively with other teammates on a collection by inviting them to contribute to any Keeeb page you have created.

A unique feature of Keeeb called Groups allows to tie together multiple items in a collection by dragging them on top of each other. Groups in turn, can be nested into other groups.

Keeeb makes it very easy to clip multiple parts from a web page or set of pages and to collect them in an orderly manner inside a page.

Keeeb offers much better functionalities than Pinterest, allowing serious content curators to create valuable collections of multimedia excerpts on specific subjects.

Definitely worth trying.

Free to use.

Hi David, Keeeb is a good tool if you need to collect and organize web resources, images or video. It's better than Pinterest functionality-wise but it does not have its audience. So my advice is try it out and see if it does what you need to do.

Clip and Organize Your Favorite Texts and Images for Business Use with Clipsi

Clip and Organize Your Favorite Texts and Images for Business Use with Clipsi | Content Curation World | Scoop.it
Robin Good's insight:

Clipsi is a free Pinterest-like content curation tool that allows you to clip text and images from any web page or local document and to organize them into collections and to share, publish and embed them easily on the web.

A dedicated bookmarklet facilitates the clipping and capturing of new content "just-in-time". Collected content, just like on Pinterest can be titled and described, linked to other resources, but cannot be edited or tagged.

Collection / boards can be placed either on "private" (one for free accounts) or "public" boards.

My comment: This content clipper and organizer is a Pinterest-look alike that is positioned for business users and which adds to the basic Pinterest-like image gathering functionality the ability to clip text sections from web pages or from local docs.

Clip Anything from the Web and Organize Into Collections with Memit (Web + iOS)

Robin Good's insight:

Memit is a content curation app that allows you to clip any web page (as is) text, image or video available online and to save it inside a collection.

Collections can be set to be private or public, and you can invite as many other people as you want to collaborate and contribute to it.

Individual items clipped can be commented, tagged and can be shared on your preferred social media channels. You can follow other Memit users and see their stream of clipped items just like similar tools do.

Each user gets a Profile Page showcasing his work and publicly saved items.

My comments: Good flexible clipper allows easy grabbing of what you are interested in and easy storing into your categories and tags. Good actegorization functions. Good for collaborative use around the collection of texts, excerpts or video clips. Not so great at collection display (only a linear, vertical list format is avaiable for now), publishing or exporting (no embed feature).

P.S.: If you have backed up your Clipboard.com collections, you can import them directly into Memit.

Interesting tool!

Jose Jordan's curator insight, July 2, 2013 1:38 PM

Visually Curate Your Digital Magazine or Product Showcase with Clipzine

Visually Curate Your Digital Magazine or Product Showcase with Clipzine | Content Curation World | Scoop.it

Robin Good's insight:

Clipzine is a web app which makes it easy to collect images from any website page and to visually organize them into page-based collections.

On each page it is possible to place as many as 24 pieces of content and to decide how large or small each element will be. The user can expand each imported element over two or more tiles and move it around to any position.

It is also possible to use one or more tiles to add custom text and information and to format it professionally.

One key practical use of Clipzine that can be helpful in testing out its capablities is its ability to create a visual magazine of any Pinterest board.

Just go to the selected Pinterest board page, click the Clipzine bookmarklet and select the unique Clipzine option to capture "all" images available on that page at once.

Once captured all the images in a "zine", click on Edit / Syling and then on the Styling button that appears above each page content. Now hover with your mouse on any image in the collection and experiment with the feature buttons that appear around and in the center of each image.

The final collection, called a zine, can be saved, published on the web, shared on social media, embedded on other sites or saved to a PDF file.

My comment: This is one of the very few curation tools that leverages a tremendously powerful variable: control of positioning and size of elements in a collection. This is very useful as it empowers the curator to go beyond the linear top-down list or newspaper/magazine sequence and to create a more varied "equilibrium" between the elements in the collection.

Understanding how to use Clipzine is not as intuitive as one would like, and the UI, thanks also to the presence of unpleasant and distracting ads is not as clean and straightforward as I would like to be.

Promising concept. Powerful visual control in the hands of the curator. A bit disappointing implementation and not so intuitive and simple to use (for now).

Free to use. Ad supported.
