Flipboard-Like Tool Creates Beautiful Curated Magazines for the Web: NOOWIT

Flipboard-Like Tool Creates Beautiful Curated Magazines for the Web: NOOWIT | Content Curation World |
Robin Good's insight:

Noowit is a new curation and publishing platform that allows you to do on the web something very similar to what Flipboard allows you to do with your smartphone or tablet. You can curate a beautiful-looking web magazine, by selecting content from its internal news discovery engine or by clipping any content you find on the web with the dedicated NOOWIT bookmarklet.

On the backend you can select individual topics, authors and specific sources you want to subscribe to, to keep yourself informed. You can provide specific RSS feeds or import your collection of RSS subscriptions.

You can create multiple content sections inside a magazine and when you add new content you can easily decide in which section it is going to end up.

A swift navigation scheme provides almost seamless integration between the excerpted content that appears in the magazine and the full, original resource that you can navigate to without losing touch with the rest of the magazine.

NOOWIT magazines can be set to be public or private and they can be viewed across devices and screen of all sizes.

Like on Flipboard it is not possible to edit, modify or add to content that you pick and select to be added to your magazines.

My comment: NOOWIT easily creates great-looking digital magazines of your selected articles and resources. It is a great tool for anyone wanting to create easily a "splashy" curated digital magazine that looks great across devices with the minimum effort possible.

Curated Fashion: How a Small Independent Web Magazine Creates Value While Being Sustainable - FEYT

Curated Fashion: How a Small Independent Web Magazine Creates Value While Being Sustainable - FEYT | Content Curation World |

Robin Good: If you are looking for a good example of a web magazine using curation to create value for its readers while creating revenue, check out FEYT.

The minimalist publication curates fashion "themes" by providing original short-format content accompanied by human-curated sets of fashion items that fit the topic and which nicely complement each other.

The items showcased come from third-party fashion providers and Feyt makes a revenue/commision on each item sold, just like a classic affiliate would.

From Fashionista: "Feyt is a personal styling website, founded by fashion industry insiders, combining algorithmic technology and human curation to recommend designer fashion to high end customers based on their personal taste and style, monetizing these customers via global ecommerce affiliates.

In-house fashion experts score and rate seasonal fashion and style across a broad range of criteria and characteristics, rooted in individual style versus the more common approach of simple visual imagery."

Curate Your Own Web Magazine by Picking the Best from the Web with Zeen

Curate Your Own Web Magazine by Picking the Best from the Web with Zeen | Content Curation World |

Robin Good: I have just received an invitation to test the new content curation platform Zeen, and here I am with some early impressions on what I have seen.

Zeen is a content curation tool designed to create good-looking magazines on a specific topic or theme. Setup and configuration is very easy and straightforward and it allows you to connect your Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Once you are in, you can immediately set up a Zeen magazine, by selecting a title, a description and a cover image. From there on you are free to use the integrated search feature to find web articles, news, images, video clips or tweets relevant to your magazine. You just start a search after having selected what kind of content you are looking for and Zeen presents you with a set of relevant results. One-click on any of them and they are inserted instantly in your magazine.

You can also create as many "tags" (Zeen calls them "labels") as you like and assign each content item to a specific label.

The final magazine issue offers an automatic visual table of contents, in which you can organize by dragging and dropping the order of your selected contents.

A Zeen magazine can be made of multiple issues, instead of being like, a continuously growing content holder. You select the content items and you produce an issue (which can be still edited after publication).

N.B.: There is no way to edit or modify the content picked and added to your magazine, including the use of images.

You can't create new content but only pick and organize existing resources.

Here is an example of a Zeen magazine:

After receiving an invite yesterday and also gave it a try. They have a long way to go as far as a mobile user using the site to currate content.

In find when viewing a magazine the layout has to much going on around it that takes away from the content.

Brian, I agree with you 1000%!
