The Best Online Video Content Curated Into 30' Thematic Programs: Pluto.TV

The Best Online Video Content Curated Into 30' Thematic Programs: Pluto.TV | Content Curation World | Scoop.it
Watch the best videos for free, 24/7, on any device. From music to sports, kids, skate, surf, comedy and more—it's out of this world.
Robin Good's insight:

Pluto.tv is a new web service which curates the best video clips available online by organizing content coming from YouTube and many other video sharing sites into thematic programs of 30 minutes each.

The interface is very similar to the one utilized by program guide viewers on standard cable TV.

Pluto.tv offers already more than 100 thematic video channels all curated by human beings.

My comment: An effective approach to surface great video content

while delivering it in a familiar and consumable format.

Available also as an app for iOS and Android.

Free to use.

The Ultimate YouTube Clip Finder, Collector and Trimmer: Zeeik It

Robin Good's insight:

"Zeeik It" is a new bookmarklet from Zeeik, a video curation app, that allows you to easily collect and save into discrete collections all of the YouTube videos found on Twitter or on most any web page.

Once collected you can pick the ones you want and easily trim them before saving them into a curated video collection.

Zeeik video collections are a good way to create valuable content that can be embedded in any article or guide and that can be served according to multiple categories and criteria as you can see from this specific example: http://zeeik.com/zeeik/-21828800

(click "Cool Colors" or "Warm Colors").

You can find the new Zeeik It bookmarklet on the top right of the Zeeik home page here: http://zeeik.com/

Free to use.

Curate Real-Time News and Video with WordPress Media Explorer

Curate Real-Time News and Video with WordPress Media Explorer | Content Curation World | Scoop.it
Robin Good's insight:

Automattic, the company behind WordPress has just released a tool which allows WordPress users to curate real-time news coming from Twitter and YouTube video clips without ever leaving the standard WP posting dashboard.

From TheNextWeb: "Akin to having Storify right in your WordPress platform, users can click on the “Add Media” button while they’re editing a post and see options to insert either a tweet or a YouTube video.

Being able to embed social content like this isn’t new — both Twitter and YouTube have made it possible for a long time, but WordPress is now streamlining it so that you can simply query based on keyword, hashtag, user, or geographic location, and it will populate the relevant content."

My comment: Sign of the times. Soon most publishing tool will integrate curation facilities that allow easy searching and integration of excerpts from articles, videos and other content types into original content. The WordPress Media Explorer confirms this trend while providing thousands of small independent publisher with ready-to-use simple curation facilities.

N.B.: At present the Media Explorer is available only for WordPress.com users, but it will be soon available as a Jetpack also for self-hosted WordPress sites.

Here's Something Good To Curate: The Short Cutts

Here's Something Good To Curate: The Short Cutts | Content Curation World | Scoop.it
Get the actual answers to 100s of Matt Cutts Web Master videos: The Short Cutts
Robin Good's insight:

Here's a good real-world example of good content that could become one hundred times more useful and valuable for readers if it was just "curated" a bit more.

A company called ClickConsult has had in fact the great idea of culling together all of Matt Cutts' videos (the Google Spam team evangelist), in a one-page collector, while complementing all clips with a summarized text answer.

Great idea and cool execution: http://www.theshortcutts.com/

but...

It's impossible to find what you are looking for or to browse in some kind of intelligent way, because all of those 100 video clips are all mixed together. Yes you can search, sort by newest, but there are no groups based on common questions and topics (and there are a lot), no sets, no playlist on any of the hot topics covered.

This is why I thik this is a perfect example of a some good content where if you only add a simple layer of curation, by organizing and grouping related items, this same collection becomes instantly one order of magnitude more useful.

Curate and Syndicate Your Own Custom Mobile TV Channel App with iLook.TV

Curate and Syndicate Your Own Custom Mobile TV Channel App with iLook.TV | Content Curation World | Scoop.it

"iLook.TV crowdsources TV channels, TV programs and TV commercials."

Robin Good's insight:

iLook.TV lets you curate custom TV channels distributable via smartphone compatible apps that act as pay-TV like subscription channels.

The channels are commercial and can include or accept advertising requests thus providing a monetization opportunity for channel curators.

iLook.TV is made up of two components:

1) iLook.TV website where you create your channels

2) iLook.TV ChannelApp for ditributing your custom channel

In a Channel you can add / syndicate video clips and submit TV commercials to the iLook.TV system.

The ChannelApp is instead a mobile app that can be fully utilized by Channel subscribers as Program Guide for your channel as well as a TV remote to watch specific video content on their connected large TV screens. The ChannelApp can be branded, configured and submitted to the Apple App Store.

ILOOKTV supports three methods of monetization: subscription, pay-per-view, and TV commercials.

Soecifically:

  • A Channel subscription must be purchased by a TV viewer to play videos that are marked premium.

  • Pay-per-view (PPV) videos are marked with “Buy” (forever) or “Rent” (for 24-hours) and require a payment from a TV viewer.

  • TV commercials are submitted to the ILOOKTV system by advertisers and are automatically played on Channels that request them.  Advertisers are automatically charged for each insertion via instant auctions.

.

Revenues are collected by iLook.TV from subscriptions, PPV and commercials and are automatically shared with Channel owners.

.

The cost to own a Channel is $100 per year.

N.B.: Channel owners also need to pay the standard $100 Apple Developer fee when they submit the ChannelApp to the Apple App Store.

.

Promising concept. Rough implementation.
A glimpse at what the future of video curated content may look like in the near future.

Search, Collect, Organize and Publish Video Collections on Your Site with Huzzaz | Content Curation World | Scoop.it
A new way to collect, organize, discover, and watch the best videos on the web.
Robin Good's insight:

Huzzaz is a new free video curation web service which allows you to search, find, collect and publish video clip collections on whataver topic or theme you may be interested in.

An internal search engine makes it easy to search for clips across YouTube and Vimeo, and to add them selectively to one of your collections. A bookmarklet is also available to clip videos that you find while surfing.

Video collections can be easily shared on social media or embedded easily on WordPress, Tumblr or on any other web site.

Asil's curator insight, October 12, 2013 4:38 PM

According to the site, they have the ability to strip the ads off the videos you put on your lists.  Makes me wonder how YouTube and Vimeo will react once they realize they aren't getting ad-views.  And if there are no ad-views, how the makers will feel about the loss of revenue?

The founder is James Yang.  There's a nice article about him on Social Times: http://socialtimes.com/huzzaz-makes-it-easy-to-create-and-share-video-playlists_b136571

From the article: Huzzaz is a passion project. “I just want to create something that helps make the world a better place.”

Mi limito a tradurre all'impronta la recensione di Robin Good

wanderingsalsero's curator insight, May 8, 2013 10:32 PM

This is a great idea although I don't see where, from just reading the description of what it does, where it's any different than Reel Surfer or Keeeb or probably even a few others.

There's no doubt, however, that curating and aggregating video content can be a beneficial service to lots of niches.....etc. specific styles of cooking, auto repair, golf tutorials, dancing (e.g. videos on 'cross body lead').

I'll definately subscribe to the site and try it out.  I'll sell you what I wish I cold find:  I wish I could find a tool that made it really easy to insert notes that would display at specific points in vidoes.  A lot of times I see videos where most of it it not interesting but a certain portion of it is.

Alexander King's comment, May 9, 2013 8:16 PM
@wanderingsalsero: Simple. Reel Surfer and Keeeb do not allow you to have a persistant, global playlist. Also Keeeb isn't just focused on playable media.. it's a lot of different things. The "liner notes" that you are referring to are a feature that is coming soon to CratePlayer!
Gianfranco Marini's curator insight, May 10, 2013 5:04 PM

Curate and Monetize Your Best Audio and Video Contents with Pivotshare

Curate and Monetize Your Best Audio and Video Contents with Pivotshare | Content Curation World | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Pivotshare is a web platform which allows you to create a branded web site where you can curate, promote and sell your best digital media video and audio files.

The service accepts .mp4, .mov, swf, .flv, .avi and .mp3 files for upload and it lets you set the price and the business model (subscription or pay-per-view or a combination of both) that you want to use.

On Pivotshare you can brand your channel with your logo and customize its look and feel, and you can also "bookmark" specific "spots" inside your audio and video content.

Content on PIvotshare is accessible by both desktop computers as well by smartphone and tablet devices and it has the ability to memorize, for the user, where a sesson is left, so that it can be picked up next time he logs in.

You can set up some of your content to be free and some of it to be accessible only by paying for it. Each channel can be fueled by more than a contributor and you are free to decide who will team up with you.

There are two delivery formats available to curate and organize your key assets: a) the Showcase (ideal for ten items or less) and b) the Library (for collections of 50 or more items).

Revenue-wise Pivotshare takes 30% from a Channel’s revenue, and passes the rest to the Editor and Contributors of that Channel.

To use the service there is no upfront cost.
