The Rotary Club of Belmopan's 16th annual Wine & Cheese fundraiser will be held on Saturday, February 24th. Proceeds go towards the Belize Children's Project.

The Rotary Club of Belmopan had their annual Wine and Cheese Fundraiser Saturday.  They had a huge crowd, and raised quite a bit of money for the Belize Children's Project.  Thanks, Rotary!

"The 2012 Wine and Cheese was a record breaking event.  With over 185 people in attendance over 40,000 was raised to support the Belize Children's project - http://rotarybelmopan.org/dynamicdata/childrenproject.aspx - a service project that has help over 300 children receive needed surgeries that change their lives.  The highlight of the evening was the presentation of two families that have benefited from the program.  Their stories demonstrated in a very tangible way the dramatic change that can occur in a child's life when they have access to needed health care.  There are many people to thank for the success of the event but at the top of the list are the many businesses and individuals that donated products and services that could be sold during the silent auction!  Without them this event would not have been the success that it was."

The Belize Children's Book Project has a great new website.  Check it out, and read all about their mission and some of the events they've had.  They've brought in over 11 thousand books for the kids to read, and had 7 reading related events.  It's a great way to follow their progress, and you can help them out with a donation through the site too.

"We encourage a love for reading by planning fun book events and putting as many books as possible into the hands of Belizean children and teens. We believe that if children have access to FUN books, they will enjoy reading and not see it as a chore."

Feelgood news of the month!  The Belize Children's Project flew little Kerisa up to treat her severe case of scoliosis.  She's on the road to recovery. 

"Born with a life threatening case of scoliosis, Kerisa Guild, 7, traveled 2,500 miles to stay with a Mount Vernon family for a severe spinal surgery she wasn’t able to receive in her home country of Belize.

Kerisa is one of nearly 500 children helped by the Belize Children’s Project, according to the founder Eugene Verdu, of Belleville.  This year, the program reached its 40th anniversary with the Belleville Rotary Club providing orthopedic care to children in need from the Central American country."

The Rotary Club of Belmopan is having their annual Wine and Cheese fundraiser at the George Price Centre.  They'll be having raffles, sileny auctions, and the wine will be flowing.  Proceeds will go towards the Belize Children's Project.  Thanks, Rotary!
