The La Ruta Maya Cultural Night is tomorrow night at the Cayo Welcome Center. There will be live music from the Galen Eagles Band, a Mayan Rain Dance by Orquidea Negra, and Dr. Jaime Awe will present 'The Old Belize River,' which is all about the fascinating history of the Maya and their use of the rivers of Belize.

What an awesome commercial! There are shots from every part of Belize here, and they are all great. It really captures the happy life in Belize. Cayo's in there. Mountain Pine Ridge had to be. The beginning of the La Ruta Maya River Challenge is in there too. And one of the bicycle races on the Western Highway. Whoever directed this deserves a double One Barrel and Coke.

The paddle boarder had fun on La Ruta Maya, and practicing for it. He finished the challenge.

"Royal christening in Belize – a beer bottle and a canoe
Queen Elizabeth II christened the QE2 in 1967 with a bottle of champagne. When Prince Harry christened the Jubilee last week, named in honour of his grandmother’s Diamond Jubilee, or 60th anniversary of occupying the throne, he used a bottle of beer, according to the canoe’s builder, Chaa Creek owner Mick Fleming.
But the beer was Beliken, the country is Belize, and the Jubilee is a canoe, so it was perfectly fitting."

The La Ruta Maya River Challenge is just over 2 weeks away. It'll follow the same route as last year. The SISE House of Culture's Cultural Night will be at the Cayo Welcome Center on Thursday, March 6th. The World Culture Band will be playing, and they'll have marimbas, and dancing. "Thank you to all our sponsors! Can't wait for race day!"

The 15th annual La Ruta Maya River Challenge will be from March 8th through the 11th this year. Can the Belize Bank Bulldogs retain their title? They've upadated the website, and will be having the committee meeting on Tuesday the 15th at Meluchi's.
"There will be a committee meeting on Tuesday January 15th at Meluchi's at 7pm SHARP! All members are called to this notice and to be present and on time. "

La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge ended in a feverish paddle battle between two well known teams. Thanks to Will Moreno, there's some good footage of it. Congratulations to all the teams.
Per Plus TV: "The first leg concluded at banana bank, with Belize Bank establishing an early lead in the pivotal male division. The race wound its way along the length of the Belize Old River over 4 days. The huge crowd gathered at the Belcan Bridge, in Belize City, to watch the canoes come racing downriver. In a heated race Ziprider edged out Belize Bank by a nose to cross the finish line first - for the male division. But because they were lagging behind in their cumulative time they did not make it into the top three. Those coveted positions went to 1st place winners, Belize Bank who regained the top spot finishing in 16:36:3. Oceana a new sponsor in the race, but with a lethal weapon named Chris Guides and two foreigners finished 2nd with 16:37:52. Niche rounded out the 3rd spot. Other winners included Peace makers for the female division; Beat the Burn for the mixed division; Wat a ting in the master’s; St Ignatius High School in the Intramural and Crime fighters in the Pleasure Craft division."

The SISE House of Culture got some fantastic shots of the Ruta Maya Cultural Event last night. Not a lot of people made it in the chilly rain, but those that did were presented with a great show, and wonderful music from the Galen Eagles Band.

Check out that costume! The SISE House of Culture and NICH threw a pretty cool LRM Cultural Night at Macal Park last night. The Galen Eagles played some great songs, and Orquidea Negra did a few Mayan dances.
