Awesome news on the scholarship front. Taiwan has awarded a record 52 scholarships this year. Thank you, Taiwan!

"Record-breaking 52 aspiring young Belizean scholarship awardees will travel to Taiwan!

A record-breaking 51 aspiring young Belizean scholarship awardees will travel to Taiwan to further their studies.  Great pictures from the awards ceremony.

"Ambassador David Kuan-Chou Chien officially congratulated the 2021 Taiwan MOFA & ICDF Scholarships recipients at the Orientation on August 28th.

The PADF has teamed up with the MoF and the SISE TC to fix and expand drainage around Cayo.  The Belize Urban Resilience and Disaster Prevention project will reduce flood risk for over 3000 people.  Thanks, PADF!

"The Pan American Development Foundation (PADF), the Ministry of Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment and Sustainable Development, and the San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council (SISE TC) signed an in-kind agreement valued at over US$19,000 to further equip local and central government with drainage works in San Ignacio. Over the past 13 months PADF, with the support of the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), has been implementing the “Flood Risk Reduction Project for San Ignacio and Santa Elena Towns” to strengthen flood management capabilities in the municipality...

The drainage improvements are expected to be completed by November 30, 2020 and reduce flood risks for over 600 households – approximately 3,000 individuals."

The Pan American Development Foundation, as part of its Flood Risk Reduction Project, will be clearing around 7000 feet of drains around Cayo.  This will help mitigate the flash floods that are common in the area.  Thanks, PADF, and Taiwan!

"As part of the Taiwan-funded 'Flood Risk Reduction Project for San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town,' the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) is pleased to announce its support for the Town Council through excavation services in the upper San Ignacio area. This support will clear approximately 7,000 feet of drains, starting at the Santiago Juan Layout entrance to the Orchard Area leading into the Macal River. This intervention will reduce the probability of flooding in the Independence Square neighborhood during the imminent rainy season. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is especially critical that communities take proactive steps like this to mitigate the negative consequences of floods. Such interventions will reduce the need for evacuations and can slow the spread of the disease in the event of a major storm. This support is expected to positively impact approximately 6,520 residents in this municipality."

Video of the day.  The Los Hijos del West are having a great time playing in Taiwan.  They start at around 2:30 into the video.  Definitely worth a watch.  They play Hotel California, one of their staples.

"We present daily and although our schedule varies from day to day,every country present offers amazing cultural performance at the Dongshan River Water Park; A huge amusement park on its own.

The main objective in inviting many countries is a special treat to the Yilan County community members so that they can have an enriching summer time appreciating and getting to know other countries and their cultures.

Tilapia farming is working well in Central Farm.  They had a successful workshop on the subject which had more than 40 attendees.  

"The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) is pleased to announce that Tilapia production has become a hot topic after the Aquaculture project was started.  Since the entry barrier of tilapia farming is less than other aquaculture issue, with the assistance from the Aquaculture Project, which is a cooperated project between the Government of Belize and Government of Taiwan, there are more than 100 producers who have ventured into having their own tilapia farm and have received good revenues."

Feelgood news of the day.  The NTHU student group spent the week at Buena Vista primary school, along with some volunteers from Sacred Heart Junior College, to teach the kids about computers.  They have a great slide show, with some movie clips in it.  

The University of Belize had their orientations.  School will be starting back up soon.  Hope everyone had a great Summer.  Isn't that the Taiwanese student group presenting at the orientation?

"JOY and EXCITEMENT were spread in the air at Taiwan Embassy the past weeks, as our staff worked very hard to assist the 2020 Taiwan MOFA and ICDF Scholarship Recipients for their preparation before departure. Congratulations to the 26 recipients of the Taiwanese scholarships!  They'll start studying in Taiwan for this Fall 2017 semester.  Study hard.  Thanks, Taiwan! 

"The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and Belize-Taiwan ICDF Alumni Society (a.k.a. Taiwan Alumni Association) co-hosted 2017 Taiwan Scholarship Awarding Ceremony and Orientation for 26 scholarship recipients on Saturday, August 5th, 2017 at Radisson Fort George Hotel. The scholarship recipients have been awarded scholarships respectively through the Taiwan ICDF Scholarship Program and the Taiwan Scholarship Program. A total number of 334 Belizeans have been granted scholarships to study in Taiwan until now.

The Taiwanese student group from NTHU took a day off from visiting local primary schools to visit the Xunantunich archaeological site.  They had a great time exploring the site, which should be seeing the opening of its new visitor's center soon.
