Illustrative Chart on Project Based Learning Vs Problem Based Learning | Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Illustrative Chart on Project Based Learning Vs Problem Based Learning | Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it

Project based learning and problem based learning are two didactic approaches to learning that are often used interchangeably to refer to the same thing: engaging students in authentic learning activities. This truism does not always hold true. In a learning task that is problem based, the focus is on finding solutions to the  problem posed  through applying learned strategies and in so doing the process of arriving at the solution is, in and of itself, an integral part of the overall learning taking place . Whether a learning activity is authentic or not does not really matter from a problem based learning perspective because often times 'fictitious scenarios' are purposefully designed to provide learners with a contrived environment to work on their ill-structured problems.

What You Need to Know About Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook by Gary Vaynerchuk [Infographic]

What You Need to Know About Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook by Gary Vaynerchuk [Infographic] | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it

I'm all about Infographics these days, so I decided to break down my new book into some fun stats. Take a look!

Marty Note
Gary Vaynerchuk's latest book is excellent. Gary describes the Thank You Economy as a great "jab" book. He wanted to right a great "right hook" book too, a book about conversion and how to finish the social marketing fight we are all in.

He is aware, via his consulting work, that many view social media as a fad. He wishes them well as they fade off into obscurity (lol). I love his 3 characteristics of a great "right hook":

* Easy to understand (and present) Call-to-Action (CTA).
* Crafted agnostic and beautiful on any receiving device.

* Respects the nuances of the social network for which you make the content.

That last bullet should be the eye opening moment for many Internet marketers. Marketers who have one-sided conversations that don't respect the subtle and not so subtle nuance of platforms they use to communicate their stories will be treated like the spammers they are.

It is not enough, Vaynerchuk explains, to have awesome content. Content must be massaged to the medium. Where once the medium was the message now the medium influences the shape, form, tone and syntax of our stories. To be heard your marketing must speak the right language at the right time.

Will be writing a more extensive review, but BRAVO and KUDOS to Gary for creating writing another groundbreaking book a true "right hook".

Sean Morris: Asynchronous Improvisation

Sean Morris: Asynchronous Improvisation | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it

Sean Morris:

For example, find a way to allow your students to not just create discussions on their own, but to make those discussions not at all peripheral to the main thrust of the learning. Have students decide not what they want to discuss, but what discussions are necessary to the class. And here, I’m not talking about students voting on discussion topics that you create, but creating their own ideas for what can and should be discussed about the subject matter.

Another option: allow students to bring their own materials to bear on the learning. Ask them to write—asynchronously—a collaborative manifesto for the class that supplements (and sometimes overrides) the syllabus. If you’re teaching Moby Dick let them decide how best to embrace the book. Will they write reports, or make papier maché whales? Will they give video presentations, or collaboratively write a comic for the book online? Whatever they come up with, be prepared to invent right alongside them.

Training the Brain to Listen: A Practical Strategy for Student Learning and Classroom Management

Training the Brain to Listen: A Practical Strategy for Student Learning and Classroom Management | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it

Editor's note: This post is co-authored by Marcus Conyers who, with Donna Wilson, is co-developer of the M.S. and Ed.S. Brain-Based Teaching degree programs at Nova Southeastern University.

During the school year, students are expected to listen to and absorb vast amounts of content. But how much time has been devoted to equipping students with ways to disconnect from their own internal dialogue (self-talk) and to focus their attention fully on academic content that is being presented? Listening is hard work even for adults. When students are unable to listen effectively, classroom management issues arise.

Sue Gaardboe's curator insight, January 24, 2014 3:32 AM

Teaching the difference between hearing (acknowledging there is a noise but not necessarily engaging the brain to understand the sound) and listening (consciously trying to make sense of the sound) would be a good first step too.

Haiku Deck & Scoopit Examples Of New SaaS Development Model | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it

Working hard on a SaaS set of publishing tools and was analyzing what it takes to "cross the chasm" from unknown SaaS to successful, well loved tool. Here is what I found:

* Critical that a new tool create community.
* Haiku Deck demonstrates this idea with their feature gallery:
http://www.haikudeck.com/gallery/featured and Scoop.it with their posting wall.
* Community must scale in size and diversity.
* Diversity creates community "intelligence".
* Community intelligence helps monetize.
* Money helps create new tools.
* New tools help build community faster.
and so on creating a positive virtual cycle.

Tools can solve a problem like Haiku Deck (easy access to creative commons), plant a flag on an emerging trend (Scoop.it and Paper.li) and mashup scaled systems such as ZipCar.com.
