The curation comment is interesting... I think it's fantastic that students are able to gain these skills without the assistance of a teacher, but ultimately if they veer off the path or have been misguided, they will always need a facilitator to not only show students the tools but also give them some best practice ideas.

This describes the 12 principles of mobile learning. It describes not only how to use technology in classes but also the reasoning behind using it.
Scoop.it!
Inline with the editorial policy of Educational Technology and Mobile Learning, I often find myself sharing articles on the nature of learning and learning methods without having necessarily to be connected to technology. Technology is definitely part and parcel of the educational spectrum but it does not subsume it.
As a teacher, I personally look at technology only as a means to perfecting my teaching and therefore enhancing my students learning. Having a basic knowledge on the teaching pedagogy and learning theories is another means to bettering our teaching practice which would eventually serve our ultimate goal : Improving our students learning.
That being said, today's post is about the four pillars of education as has been conceptualized by United Nations report on Education. I have really enjoyed reading the entire report and those four pillars in particular stood out for me and thought you might be interested in reading them as well. I will copy you parts of what these pillars are all about and provide you with the links to read more on them . Via Gust MEES

Ross Parker has posted another infographic that ties into an earlier one (that looked at Style Comparison and was posted in this Scoop.it). This one looks at mindsets and how there are similarities today in the mindsets of teachers and students. He states "The two visualisations below are part of an ongoing attempt to define my views on education, and make these accessible to my students, fellow teachers, parents and leaders." If you click through to the post you will also see the first infographic and you may download them in a variety of formats.

Letting students take more active roles in their learning doesn't mean teachers should take more passive roles. It means we should take new roles. We should assess students before assisting them. We should prepare for students' mistakes rather than try to prevent them. We should facilitate less whole-group instruction, and more whole-group discussion.
We should do what Yves Kabore has done to enable 6th graders to "fly through" material many 10th graders would find challenging: coach students rather than teach students. Via Gust MEES

You ask any teacher today about the skills they want their students to develop and you will get critical thinking skills as an obvious answer; of course together with other skills. With the advance of technology and the educational paradigmatic shift that ensued , critical thinking skills have occupied a central part in the literature of teaching and learning pedagogy, not that these skills were not important before but I would say they came to the foreground now more than in any time before. There are many learning models that we may explore, and this one is presented a bit differently than others I have seen. Quoting from the post "The goal of the model is simple enough–not pure academic proficiency, but instead authentic self-knowledge, diverse local and global interdependence, adaptive critical thinking, and adaptive media literacy." There are nine domains in this model (listed below) and the post provides additional information. * Five Learning Actuators * Changing Habits * Transparency * Self-Initiated Transfer * Mentoring and Community * Changing Roles * Climate of Assessment * Thought and Abstraction * Expanding Literacies
