Put simply - Google (and for that matter any commercial search engine) may skew search results to promote their own commercial interests. The question to ask yourself is "are the (search) results good enough?" - I'd say in Google's defence "yes they are".

It's worth keeping in mind that some 'publishers' try to sell books based entirely on Wikipedia content. 

SCOOPS --  I began using Scoop when I was defining myself a LITE FEET DANCER.  There was no single source of info about Lite Feet dance, a NYC Born Battle dance phenom and YouTube Sensation.  I created LITE FEET SCOOP TO reference for my own resume but also to provide anyone interested a link to the multitude of YOUTUBE Channels, Sound Cloud and personal sites dedicated to this unique art form and the talented dancers who participate.

Maria Popova is the author of Literary Jukebox, a fascinating collection of daily quotes from her favorite books, each one thematically matched to a song.

She writes about it: "Sometimes, the connections will be fairly obvious. Other times, they might be more esoteric and require some reflection." 

Literary Jukebox is truly a work of love and a great example of how curating something you truly enjoy, can create permanent value, while providing cultural insight, an opportunity for music discovery to the reader as well as exposure and visibility to the books and music authors included.

Zeef è una applicazione web che genera categorie e sarebbe piaciuta molto ad Aristotele e a  Kant.

Il suo utilizzo è semplicissimo, basta indicare il nome della nostra collezione di Link, dedicata a uno specifico tema, e quindi procedere a creare, all'interno di quel tema e argomento delle categorie, che sono rese graficamente come blocchi di liste di indirizzi. Aggiungere ai blocchi nuovi indirizzi è altrettanto semplice, basta copiare e incollare l'URL del sito o della risorsa che ci interessa.

I blocchi possono essere collocati nell'ordine che preferiamo semplicemente trascinandoli con il mouse nella posizione che più ci piace ed è sempre possibile aggiungere nuovi blocchi.

This short article provides five solid reasons why one needs to curate. Needless to say, I've bought into the idea anyway

Why I choose this topic to be my thesis topic? When I first heard this topic, I found it very attractive. In this world full of digital information, how can we find good content we need. Later I found scoop.it and Robin Good which strengthen my view that content curation is so useful. Because I found many valuable information in his topic and it really saves me a lot of time.

This article points out in multiple ways and with some interesting supporting data how big is the problem for schools and educational institutions in trying to identify relevant tools to adopt in absence of expert trusted guides that they can rely on.

The Hechingerreport writes: "...school leaders on this new frontier face a daunting challenge: from the slew of highly touted new products, how do they pick the right ones?

“It’s hard for our people to know what all of the choices are,” said Penny Hodge, the assistant superintendent of budget and finance in Roanoke. “Maybe there were even better choices and we weren’t aware.”

Today’s school leaders must navigate a market with little trustworthy evidence to show what works. Billions of dollars are being spent while educators try to untangle a maze of sales pitches."

The problem of identifying the most appropriate tools, services or products is not a problem limited only to the education sector. Just about anyone who is not an tech-expert in his area would have a hard time today finding the most appropriate tools in the midst of so many offerings and so little trustworthy information about them.

"Part of the reason is that credible evidence often isn’t available. Only one-third of school technology directors surveyed said that education technology companies offer reliable data on their products, according to the survey."

The solution to this issue is already starting to emerge in the form of both non-profit and commercial companies who will devote their time and resources to scout, test, verify and review tools while providing the means to search, filter and compare them easily.

Graphite.org, Edshelf are just two among many emerging examples of "reputable curation websites, with professional reviews and a social media component" that provide a one-stop solution for those in need of an expert and trusted guide in the tools for education area.

Must read for anyone interested in better understanding where we are headed when it comes to choosing tools.. 9/10

truly Curation should not be  merely aggregating different links without  taking off time to reflect indeed it is very to end up like some one buying clothes impulsively only to realise you could have done without some of them.

According to the site, they have the ability to strip the ads off the videos you put on your lists.  Makes me wonder how YouTube and Vimeo will react once they realize they aren't getting ad-views.  And if there are no ad-views, how the makers will feel about the loss of revenue?

Huzzaz è un servizio web based per la video curation che consente di ricercare, filtrare, organizzare e pubblicare raccolte di clip video su un tema specifico.

Grazie a un motore di ricerca è semplice trovere clip su Uoytube e Vimeo e aggiungerle a una delle nsotre collezioni. Grazie a un bookmarklet è anche possibile aggiungere immediatamente contenuti video che troviamo durante la navigazione.

Le collezioni video realizzate possono essere facilmente condivise nei principali social network o incorporate.

Molte facile da utilizzare, Huzzaz è un utile strumento per scoprire video e per la video curation

Clipular is Chrome browser extension and web app which is capable of capturing any text, web page, image, video, diagram or any other content you can see on a web page, wile indexing the text it contains and letting you organize it into public/private collections.

The Clipular capturing tool can capture full web pages, or any portion that you specify.

Captured content can be tagged (assigned to one or more categories), commented and easily shared on your preferred social media channels.

Clipular "boards" (collections) can be set to be private or can be publicly shared.

My comment: This is an excellent content capturing and organization tool, meant for internal work and not for publishing collections to the public (at least for now). The capturing tool is extremely effective, and the organizational features also work very well. The display, in the main dashboard and the four display modes do have some margin of improvement. Good alternative to Pinterest when you need not so much to collect images, but rather web pages, text excerpts, video collections or other materials.
