* WordPress
* Instapaper
* RSS Feeds

Jenny Golfin, whose duties have included morning shift web updating, social media management and reporting, will be devoted full-time to this new role.
Her mission will be to provide our audience with links to breaking and comprehensive news and information relevant to their community and interests.
Putting the reader first, she’ll link out to blogs, Twitter feeds, YouTube videos and even the work of our longest-standing “traditional” competitors, not just to content produced by our staff writers at The Register Citizen, or by sister Journal Register Company publications in Connecticut.

Flipboard, Pulse, Zite, Flud; all free apps that you can download onto your iPad to keep you up to date with your own news interests.
They will generally get their data directly from your own resources - your Twitter or Facebook account, or they'll provide you with the option of choosing subject areas, and then you can indicate if you like a subject, which will then affect the information returned in the future.
You'll also find that rather than simply give a list of URLs the app will collect the original story for you and return it, so that it can simply be read on the screen. Consequently, you're creating your own magazine, split into various sections, to be read at your leisure. Let's take a look at each of these in turn.

Event industry suppliers—general service contractors, sales and marketing firms, and exhibit designers—are stepping out of their comfort zones to take advantage of the innovation that is sweeping over the industry.
What might look like a desperate move by some companies to hitch their wagons to a star or an attempt to make up for the shortcomings of a flat industry is actually a smart business decision.
A clear precedent for the trend comes from social media and the growing practice of content curation.

What is journalism?’ is probably a very elementary but necessary question to ask right now. In the olden times of pre-2000, what made it easy for people to distinguish between respected journalists and ‘filler’ journalists used to be the sheer quality of reporting they delivered; solid investigations, probing questions and impressive sources.
Today, the nature of all those factors has changed. This video titled ‘The Rise and Fall of the TV Journalist’ really encapsulates this. It’s a little bit old-school, a little bit more critical in its review of the profession, but some key observations really flesh out what is going on today.

I’ve always been into curation, it's just that I didn’t know it. When I did my first shift on my local newspaper, The Southport Visiter , I was gathering information to display for the benefit of others.

For those of us who communicate with others professionally inside organizations, this is a relatively new problem.
With employees accessing so much stuff on their own inside and outside the company firewalls, it’s hard to get people’s attention. (By comparison, when information was scarce, employees looked to us to provide them with the information we were able to gather.)

With all the content online, it is hard for businesses to sort through all the noise and find what they really want. As a result, many content curation services have risen up to help serve this need.

One of the continuing trends in B2B social media is curating content from other sources and presenting it to your followers and subscribers.
Depending on the medium you use to present it, this may include your own comments about the curated articles. While it is important to create your own original content for your company’s social media outlets, one way to broaden the amount of content your provide to your network is to share content of others.

Social media platforms at their outset allowed us to share information on what’s happening in our daily lives with friends and family.
In the past few years, we’ve seen these channels gain credibility as we’ve been granted access to breaking news (Twitter), opinions (blogs) and visual content (YouTube, flickr, Twitpic, etc.) through them.

If you have a blog, you know that unless you post at least twice a week visitors tend to forget you. You need a flow of fresh, interesting content, to keep people coming back again and again.
Sometimes, the inspiration is there: you have the right insights, the right anecdotes or learnings from your work that can make a great post, and you have no problem transforming them into a 500 words blog post.
Other times, you just don’t have the subject matter handy. Quality curation is a great way to fill your blog with fresh content. Will replacing original content with curated content harm your image viewers?
Not at all, if you do it right. Here are 7 pointers for successful curation.

The note-taking space has certainly come a long way. When we started to think about Memonic – back in 2007 – the online note-taking arena was virtually empty (even Evernote was only launched in 2008).
Sure, Delicious and similar bookmarking services were already around… but they were quite limited in their scope, offering not much more than bookmarking. One Note was around – but it was bound to the desktop. It was a clear, blue ocean.

My grandmother – she was born in 1895 – could not believe people would ever be able to land on the moon. She was convinced it was impossible and it would never happen.
My grandmother turned out to be wrong. On July 21, 1969 Neil Armstrong was the first man to set foot on the moon. And others followed.
So I may have to be a little bit careful with what I am going to say now: Google (and search engines in general) will never be able to deliver you the content you are really looking for.

Content curation is such a hot topic these days – I included it in my Five Social Media Trends for 2011 and many others did too.
It’s in every single conversation I have with new clients, and it seems to take up a lot of headspace for current clients as well. And I find myself trading curation tools, techniques and ideas with my social media colleagues all the time.
So as a followup to my earlier post on the topic, which was primarily focused on content curation for Twitter, here is my latest thinking on how brands can curate content to enhance their social media streams, broaden their reach, and generate community engagement.
